Father was engineer for Minnesota Highway Department.
Up to age six, family lived in northern Minnesota during construction season, Minneapolis during winters.
Age six, father stationed permanently in Brainerd, Minnesota.
Father bought lakeshore property on Clearwater Lake, east of Brainerd; built summer cottage in 1941. Summers, lived at lake; winters, lived in rental properties in Brainerd until 1946.
Graduated from Brainerd High School in 1952; awarded B. Phys. degree June 1957, major physics, minor mathematics; equivalent major in astronomy; M. Sc. degree March 1961, major geophysics/physics, minor geology.
During graduate school years, worked for US Geological Survey. Built and operated mobile ground magnetometer in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and most of western United States. Wrote Master’s thesis on Fourier analysis of magnetic traverse data.
After graduation held jobs with Newmont Mining Corporation, Danbury, Connecticut, and Hydrospace Research Corporation, Washington, DC area.
Carried banner in March for Jobs and Freedom, 1963; heard Martin Luther King give ‘I have a Dream’ speech at Lincoln Memorial.
September-October 1963, Worked way from New York to Sydney, Australia, as deck hand on Columbus Line freighter M.V. Cap Verde.
1963 to 1967, exploration geophysicist for Conzinc Riotinto Australia Exploration (CRAE), Australia and Bougainville Island. Did original magnetic exploration of Panguna prospect, Bougainville, 1965; induced polarization of Panguna, 1967.
Obtained private pilot’s license, 1967; flew airplane to geophysical projects around Australia.
Ph.D. candidate, Sydney University, 1968. Independent geophysical consultant, mining and engineering, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, 1968 to 1977.
Returned to US with family, 1977, by way of Bali, Indonesia; Hong Kong; India; Israel; Europe.
Worked as engineering geophysicist for Shannon and Wilson, geotechnical consultants, Seattle; geophysicist/marketing/sales manager, Bison Instruments, Minneapolis; consulting geophysicist, Minneapolis.
Began career as consultant technical writer/author, Minneapolis, 1984. Worked for Control Data, Honeywell, ASEA Brown Boveri, ETA Computers, documenting supercomputer design.
Moved to Plano (Dallas), Texas, 1990, to work as Technical Writer for Convex Computer Corporation, documenting supercomputer design; Systemware, Inc., documenting database content server software.
Still living in Plano.
